WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY

"As someone with average English listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, it took a lot of courage for me to attend this course. Before the first class started, I was really nervous and worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the teacher's content. However, in reality, the teacher slowed down the pace and explained some unfamiliar words, and the course experience was really great."

"When I decided to participate in the Newton program, what I expected was a journey immersed in foreign culture, an opportunity to improve my English application ability, and the romantic town scenery. Looking back now, what I gained was far more than that. At that time, I naturally did not realize that walking into Cambridge City that summer would bring me a different cultural perspective, a challenging learning experience, and unforgettable friendships with classmates."

"The teaching approach in the UK emphasizes more on interaction, independent thinking and collaboration than in China. Many times, we are divided into several small groups to complete a task together, which requires our cooperation. We must express our personal opinions on a particular issue, and not just follow the crowd. The teacher is a guide as well as a participant, and interacts with the students to facilitate learning. Such an environment is very relaxed."

I used to be a "picky" student when it came to teachers. In Cambridge City, I felt the long-lost spirit of striving for perfection from them during their lectures. When listening to their lectures or presentations, you will feel that they are not just telling you about their work and expertise, but also sharing with you to help you understand.

During the Newton program, I could feel the carefully prepared atmosphere in the courses from the course materials to the classroom environment, and the class was therefore rich in interactivity.

"After class, I typed their names on Google and found that each of them was outstanding. They were not only teachers but also CEOs of certain companies, professors who have published numerous papers, and technical experts who hold many patents. They are very rigorous and serious in their academic research. In class, they analyze and answer every question from various perspectives and angles that each student raises."

"As a science student, every day's class is like an expansion of my knowledge. The ways of writing resumes, tips for presentations, psychology and the internet, how to work at the United Nations, wine tasting in France... These courses not only impart knowledge but also let me see the differences in teaching styles between China and foreign countries. Previously, my understanding of foreign teaching methods was only from the internet, but this time, experiencing it myself gave me a deeper understanding."

By Lin

"Just as the first instructor said, 'Communication is a joint effort of the speaker and the listener. The speaker's goal is to make the listener understand, and the listener provides feedback to achieve communication.' Perhaps for a long time in the future, I will miss the lively classrooms in Cambridge City during my studies."

We also experienced the academic atmosphere and cultural vibe of Cambridge City. In the Astronomy Society, we learned about the Big Bang, black holes, the evolution of astronomical telescopes, and gravitational waves, and together we perused a Latin astronomical encyclopedia dating back to 1651.

At the Fitzwilliam Museum, we experienced the development of European art from the concrete to the abstract, from two-dimensional to three-dimensional, and from static to dynamic.

In this course, I particularly enjoyed the class on Big Data. I thought it would be a difficult and boring class with a strong emphasis on science and technology, but I was deeply involved in a small game at the beginning of the class. The innovative teaching method and the teacher's fiery passion for the class are the reasons why I like this course. I hope to have more opportunities to participate in similar courses in the future!

The soft robots and artificial intelligence made with soft materials introduced by the teachers have attracted me, opening up new ideas for my conception of robots. The excellent performance of soft materials in various aspects is really suitable for people's daily lives! Perhaps now or in the near future, soft materials and soft robots will join our work and daily life.

I was impressed by the architecture course, especially when the teacher used film narrative techniques to explain architectural space, which was very enlightening for me. As a student of architecture myself, I have some thoughts on the order of architectural space, and the teacher's approach has greatly inspired me and given me a new perspective on architectural space design.

Architectural space should not be cold and dull, but should be full of twists and turns.

"Through communication with various teaching assistants, I truly understand that there are always people better than us. They are not only experts in their own fields but also have broad knowledge and insights in various areas. Truly outstanding people do not just focus on learning their own professional knowledge blindly. They maintain interest in various things, keep up with current events, and have unique perspectives. They have a desire to learn and understand knowledge from different fields."

My major is information management, and before, I only dealt with computers. It can be said that besides computers, I was completely useless. But in this interdisciplinary project, through breaking down barriers in teaching, I not only learned to appreciate the beauty of music and art, but also experienced the romance from the universe and starry skies. Not only did I witness the miracles brought by advances in artificial intelligence technology, but I also learned how to deliver a beautiful presentation.
